New Jersey Department of Agriculture
Memo To: New Jersey Horse Owners From: Patrick Natale, Agricultural Outreach Specialist Date: January 13, 2012 Re: Horse Stall Waste 2011
The Equine industry has grown in New Jersey and is an invaluable asset to NJ economy and culture. With growth comes challenges and as more land has gone into development, horse owners must cope with tighter spaces. One challenge is horse stall waste management. The non-profit North Jersey Resource Conservation and Development (NJRC&D) believes it is time to explore cost-effective, sustainable, safe and convenient options for horse owners to manage stall waste and meet the NJ Animal Waste Management Rules. The goal would be to create options that are both practical for horse owners and help to protect water resources.
In order to effectively develop some framework for future stall waste management options, NJRC&D is conducting a survey to horse owners and equine facility operators. This anonymous survey will not only help assess the needs of the equine industry but also the practicality of solutions. The survey is available online and as a downloadable document.
